Indigenous Sexual Health

FPQ recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the traditional custodians of Australia.

December's Timely Topic explores some of the key sexual and reproductive health issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as outlining some of FPQ's work in this area.

Some of the projects specifically focusing on young people are:

The Indigenous Young People's Sexual Health Project on the Sunshine Coast which uses a community development model to improve the sexual and reproductive health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 12-25.

For more information about this project, including the project video go to: Indigenous Young People's Sexual Health Project - Sunshine Coast

FPQ is also currently developing a targeted resource to assist Queensland health workers in the education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the area of basic reproductive anatomy, puberty, healthy sexuality and personal hygiene, sexually transmissible infections.

What challenges have you experienced in engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people around sexual and reproductive health? What have you found useful in addressing these challenges? Do you have a question about how to engage with this group?
